ROC-NH Community Leadership Training

Community Leadership Series

Our six-month workshop series is designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge to become an effective leader in your ROC and beyond. You'll learn ways to increase membership engagement, communicate more effectively, and make strategic decisions. Through interactive workshops, education and networking, you'll develop practical skills that you can apply immediately in your community. Join us and take the next step in your leadership journey!

Who is Eligible?
Community Leadership is designed for residents of ROCs in New Hampshire.

Cost:
This series is FREE to all residents of ROCs in New Hampshire.

Dates:
After the kick off on October 4th, workshops will be held once a month on Saturdays and will be a mix of online and in-person formats. 

October 18th - ROC Essentials
November 1st - Communications
December 6th - Conflict Resolution (remote)
January 10th - Community Building
February 7th - The Power of Planning (remote)
March 7th - Next Steps for Leaders
March 20th - Graduation (Friday)

College Credit May Be Available:
The New Hampshire Community Loan Fund and Granite State College have created a unique partnership that provides the opportunity for Community Leadership graduates to receive four college credits from Granite State College. A fee will be charged if graduates wish to convert their leadership completion certificates to college credits. Credit may or may not be transferable to other institutions.

Acceptance Letters: Distributed September 9, 2025

Workshop Details

  • ROC Essentials

    This session is focused on the nuts and bolts of managing a resident-owned community. Topics include:

    -Understanding cooperative bylaws
    -Governance and accountability
    -Loan compliance
    -Financial statements made simple
    -The importance of long-term planning

Communications

Let's Talk: Tips for Effective Communication: This session focuses on the importance of effective and ethical communication. Topics include:

-Verbal and non-verbal communication
-The importance of actively listening
-Asking good questions
-What does it mean to communicate ethically

  • Conflict Resolution

    Guest speakers from NH Listens share their knowledge on handling tough conversations. Conflict shows up in many ways in communities. At this class, participants will learn to support individuals and groups as they move through conflict. Topics include:

    -Preventing conflict through relationship building and communication
    -Understanding ourselves and our "hot buttons"
    -Managing our emotions for productive outcomes
    -Understanding the internal and external factors that contribute to conflict

  • Community Building

    Got Skills? This class will build on the skills learned in previous sessions and focuses on using these skills to actively engage members of the community. Topics include:

    -Identifying community member talents and skills
    -The importance of building relationships
    -Identifying key opportunities for community building

  • Power of Planning

    The power of planning and purpose: In this session, participants will have the opportunity to identify goals and issues and learn how to successfully plan to move forward. Topics include:

    -The seven steps for creating a strong action plan
    -Understand all the elements and resources of carrying out a successful action plan
    -Getting to the root of the problem
    -What's the goal? Learning how to identify issues and set goals

  • Next Steps for Leaders

    What's Next? During this session, the class will take stock of what we've learned and begin to put it into practice. We'll assess what has worked, what hasn't, and evaluate the program for future community leaders. Topics include:

    -Implementing skills and strategies
    -Celebrate successes, identify on-going areas for learning
    -Staying connected / peer support
    -Program wrap-up and evaluation
